A 1 or 3 month agreement quoted at contract signing puts a ceiling under exactly the fuel that job will burn, so the margin you quoted is the margin you keep. Running steady service and maintenance work all year? A 6 or 12 month agreement covers the whole book, and every quote you write during the term is priced against a fuel cost with a known worst case.
